Patente et Machin in Quebec City

Ordered duck breast here, and it was amazing. Extremely tender! Even though we don't know how to speak French, the server explained the entire menu to us in English. We had a great time here!

By far, my favorite place to eat in Quebec City.Despite the approachable atmosphere, the food is out of this world. You'll want to lick your plate and order seconds. That is, if you've got room for more. The menu is perpetually changing with the seasons to ensure only fresh ingredients are used. Yet, I've never been disappointed. The service and ambiance both lack the pretention you'd associate with cuisine of this caliber. You're served by friendly, joking waiters in daily clothes. The decor is homely, including a wall featuring pictures of each employee in elementary school. It's a unique experience, and one worth every penny.

Great food and service in a place that doesn't seems to be a good place at first sight. Just the best meal I had in Canada. I ordered beef tartar and bison steak. My wife got veal and pork cheek. Everything was very very good. With two beers and tips it coasted ca$140. Worth every single penny.

Absolutely delicious appetizers and mains. Host sat down and went through every item on the menu. Cool 80s vibe scene and music. Highly recommended!

A local tip brought us in to this tiny, and exquisite, restaurant. From the daily menu board to the excellent wine list, to a delightful dessert and coffee nothing could have been better. Going to this restaurant first before trying L'affaire Est Ketchup made me appreciate this one more considering they are both owned by the same owner. I personally enjoyed the food here better and the prices were better as well. I ordered the Sweet Bread as well as the Jarret de Porcelet. Portions were perfect and the price was fair. Food tasted great and the service was excellent. Will definitely return.The Sweet Bread I believe was $8 and the main dish was $26 after tax and tip I paid just a little over $45.

Wonderful hidden local gem. Place has a daily changing menu. Cozy and small thus make sure to put in a reservation.Can’t go wrong with any food choice - the lamb dishes are superb. Also boosts a great wine list with great wines from smaller vineyards in Europe. Their Riesling and Pinot Gris are excellent.

Is 9:15 pm too late for dinner on a Saturday night in Quebec City? Pompus and aloof wait staff. We walked in out of the pouring rain. The host looked for a table for us, several were open. He then told us the kitchen was closed. It seemed like we were not welcome in this restaurant. Little hospitality for outsiders I gather. Seems like a snooty joint for locals. Definitely not a place to bring a child, even a well mannered 10 year old foodie.

Excellent food. The look and feel is very casual but the food is very high class. Strange mix of grungy casual dive bar feel with exceptional high quality food. Appetisers go for around 14-20. And mains for 22-36. Expensive but good quality. Good prices on drinks though?! And extensive wine list.

Four family members meet up for seeing the sights and eating good food in Montreal and Quebec City. Great fun and much excellent food. Best meal was at Patente et Machin. Recommended by a pub owner near where we were staying in Levis as one of his favorites. Two had the Steak Frites; one the Halibut; and the other a Pork dish complimented with Shrimp. The accompanying side dishes and garnishes were perfect. The wine selections were excellent. And, I must say it was one of the best meals I have had ever. While we were far too full for dessert, we did have to try their variation on a local favorite. Chomeur with a melted topping of aged white cheddar cheese. Sounds bizarre, but was magnificent. Felt like the type of place few tourists would ever find and was being kept secret by the "in the know" locals. Wait staff very helpful to non French speaking patrons. They made us feel very welcome. Fine dining meets your neighborhood pub.

Service was warm and attentive. Loved the 80s music. Drinks and wine were perfect. Food (scallops with beef cheek) was tasty and well cooked. Wagyu beef was a little salty and chewy.

Unassuming restaurant with carefully chosen kitschy decor. The food here is incredible. This is more of a fine dining establishment then a regular once a week kind of joint, but for special occasions, it is definitely worth the visit.The menu is seasonal and varies according to what's available. Last visit our favourite was the mushrooms in a lemon cream sauce with braised waygu. The steak frite came with enough fries for four.Looking forward to the next excuse to go back.

This place was très magnifique... best meal we had in Quebec City, and we had several amazing dining experiences. The food was just incredible. The service outstanding. And the atmosphere wonderful. We can’t wait to come back and sample another shot of rum with everyone who works there. Merci beaucoup!

This place is just amazing. Every bite will send you to food heaven because it's so good. We came to QC for 3 days and came here for dinner 2 days in a row because of how nice the service and spectacular food.

Must visit!! Awesome cost place with an ever friendly and courteous staff.... Best of the French cuisine Quebec City had to offer!! As they say good things comes in small packages, this is hardly a 200sft restaurant but it definitely packs a SOLID PUNCH!! Reservations recommended.
